Solanum quadriloculatum, Bush Tomato - IMG 8923

This low growing Australian native shrub, which is often referred to as a 'Bush Tomato' or 'Wild Tomato', has hairy leaves with spiny stems. As a member of the Solanaceae family of plants it is closely related to potatoes and tomatoes. Some other Australian solanum species are of very similar appearance and produce small edible fruits but those of S. quadriloculatumIt's are extremely poisonous. This is a plant that thrives in many arid outback regions of Australia.
