Swainsona formosa / Sturt's Deasert Pea - IMG 6268

This spectacular flowering plant, which is named in honour of one of the country's most famous 19th century explorers, is commonly known as Sturt's Desert Pea. It's a leguminous ground cover plant that flourishes in some of the most arid Australian outback regions and is the floral emblem of the state of South Australia. This photo was taken in the Flinders Ranges region of that state.
