Australian wombat with mange - IMG 6904

The Australian wombat (Vombatus ursinus) is the world's largest burrowing animal. The gaping entrances to their cavernous networks of tunnels are easy to discover in the heart of any forest environment that they inhabit, but catching a glimpse of one of these appealing native animals is not so easy, for they are nocturnal. This animal is one of many that are suffering from mange and was photographed at the entrance to its burrow in bushland near the town of Scone in NSW, Australia .
